Poole Harbour Commissioners proudly welcomed the cruise ship MS Hamburg on her maiden visit to the Port of Poole on Wednesday, 9 October.

Operated by Plantours Kreuzfahrten, the 144-metre ship carried 319 passengers, stopping in Poole after a visit to London and before continuing her journey to Cornwall, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and Portsmouth.

To mark the occasion, a commemorative plaque exchange ceremony took place between the ship’s captain, Captain Igor Gaber, and Poole Harbour’s Harbour Master, Harry Gregory.

Speaking about the event, Harry said: “We are delighted to welcome the MS Hamburg to the Port of Poole. This visit strengthens our position as a growing destination for cruise ships and maritime tourism. We hope this is the first of many visits from MS Hamburg and her fleet.”

The exchange of plaques, a long-standing maritime tradition, symbolises the establishment of a lasting relationship between the port and the ship. The event reflects Poole’s ongoing efforts to attract more cruise ships, offering tourists the chance to explore the South Coast’s rich history and natural beauty, including the renowned Jurassic Coast.

Passengers aboard MS Hamburg enjoyed their brief stay in Poole, with many taking advantage of local excursions, including a walking tour of Poole and a visit to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens.
