Bournemouth-based property finance lender MSP Capital has raised a record £20,000 through its annual beach volleyball tournament. The funds will support local hospice charities Julia’s House and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

This year marked the third instalment of the event, held on Bournemouth beach, with participation up by 10 teams from last year, reaching 32 entries. Teams represented a wide range of businesses, including law firms, property developers, accountants, and estate agents.

The competition, undeterred by the grey, rainy weather, featured six-a-side teams competing in 10-minute matches. MSP Capital edged out RSM in a tense final, winning 18-17.

MSP Capital’s Joint Managing Director, Paul Miracca, said: “We set out to make this year’s event bigger and better. Despite the British weather, spirits were high, and the success will live on through the funds raised for charity.”

The funds will be evenly split between Dorset-based charities Julia’s House and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care. Caroline Attreed from Julia’s House praised the event’s impact: “The amount raised is incredible. We rely heavily on donations, and this will make a massive difference to families of children with life-limiting conditions.”

Fiona Harwood from Lewis-Manning echoed this sentiment: “The funds will support our vital services in Bournemouth, Poole, and Purbeck, including bereavement support and clinical services. Events like this also help raise awareness for the important work we do.”

Companies and organisations entering teams were: Blake Morgan, Clarke Willmott, Ellis Jones, Frettens LLP, Frost & Co, Imperial Homes, Interpath Advisory, Lester Aldridge LLP, Moore Barlow, MSP Capital, NatWest, Omega RE, Poole Property Club, Porter Dodson Solicitors LLP, Preston Redman, Quay Crew, Quostar, Rubicon, Reflect Group/Pink Rock, Ridge & Partners, RSM, Saffery, Travers, Trethowans, Uprated, Vail Williams, AECOM, Venator, Wellington King, Horde and Baggette & Co.

In addition to hosting the tournament, MSP Capital sponsored the event and provided advertising space to the charities, featuring QR codes to inform beachgoers about their work.

Eleanor Collins, event organiser and MSP Capital community committee member, added: “It was a fantastic day for businesses to network and support two amazing local causes.”

Beach volleyball company Deep Dish, founded by athletes Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf, once again helped coordinate the event and supported MSP Capital on the day with a compere, referees and DJ.

Jake said: “I admire how much MSP Capital do for the charities they work with. Putting this event on is a massive task and they bring a friendly vibe to the venue and everyone involved.

“There was an amazing atmosphere with everyone so energetic and happy to bond as teams and take part in some really fun sport. And there’s a higher purpose than just beach volleyball, raising significant amounts for their charities.”
