A Poole care home is to take a new direction with a new manager and a new name.

Birds Hill Nursing Home, which is one of five care homes operated by Luxurycare, has been renamed Eagles Mount Care Home.

The home, in Birds Hill Road, previously provided a mixture of nursing care and care for those with dementia.

It will now only offer high-end residential care with some provision for people with low-level dementia.

As part of the new direction towards residential care, a £200,000 refurbishment project is underway at the home.

A new manager will take over in October.

Mandy Kittlety, Managing Director, Luxurycare Group, said: “Since the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had so many more enquiries from families seeking residential care for loved ones as they have struggled to get the support they needed at home and found it harder to access the community services they rely on.

“As a group, we wanted to meet this need, and create a home that could focus on this kind of provision – Eagles Mount is the clear choice.

“It’s in the heart of Poole and on a main bus route, so it’s ideal for residents who want to be able to get out and about and connect with the wider community.

“The building itself is very homely rather than clinical – ideal for residential care rather than nursing care.

“While our other homes have always had a clear focus, be it the provision of dementia care, or caring for residents with physical disabilities, that hasn’t been the case for this unit.

“This new direction provides a much-needed service for the community and that specific focus for the home; it’s the perfect fit.”

The refurbishment includes new en-suite bathrooms in all the rooms to allow residents total independence.

It also includes a full redecoration of communal areas, including new carpets and new furniture.

Mandy added: “It looks and feels like a new place, so it is only fitting that it should also have a new name.

“Eagles Mount was inspired by the eagles on the entrance gates to Poole Park, and of course, is a nod to the old name too.

“It symbolises a fresh start for the home and the exciting new focus on high-quality person-centred residential care.”

The new manager, Alicja Wysocka, will join the home towards the end of October.

The 36-year-old is relocating from Redhill in Surrey where she is employed as a senior social worker.

She has spent her life working in social care after coming to the UK from Poland in 2006, supporting people with a range of needs while training to be a social worker and qualifying in 2013.

Alicja, pictured left, said: “I always knew I wanted to work with people and for people – I wanted to feel like I was making a difference.

“But I’ve found that the higher up you go in social work, the less contact you have with people.

“That’s what is driving this move for me. I want to have that close involvement with people day to day, to have that continuity again.”

Luxurycare offers nursing and residential care at Aranlaw House (Branksome Park, Poole), The Branksome Park Care Centre (Branksome Park, Poole), Eagles Mount, formerly Birds Hill Nursing Home (Poole), Regency Manor Care Home (Lower Parkstone, Poole) and Seabourne House (Southbourne, Bournemouth).
