Morebus is inviting local women to explore a new career opportunity as bus drivers, with a special ‘Try It’ day event at Bournemouth University.
Taking place on Thursday, 22 August, the event will provide an off-road experience, allowing participants to drive a bus in a safe environment. The event runs from 3pm to 7pm at car park H, Cutler Close, Bournemouth, BH12 5HS.
Nikki Honer, Morebus head of communications, emphasised the importance of this initiative: “Across the UK, women are still vastly under-represented in this field – and we want to encourage more of them to consider working within the bus industry as a driver.”
Nikki added: “We often hear from women that they don’t feel they could drive a bus. We know this is not the case. If they can drive a car, we will teach them the rest. With the right training, it’s far easier than many might think.”
Morebus’s training instructors will be available throughout the event to introduce participants to double-decker buses and guide them through a test drive around the car park.
The event is part of Morebus’s effort to increase the number of women in their workforce. Nikki explained: “We want to increase the amount of women we employ, so we have a more balanced workforce, which is why this dedicated session is especially for women.”
The event also offers a chance to meet current female bus drivers, learn about their experiences, and discover what makes the job rewarding. Morebus particularly encourages those with customer service or retail backgrounds to attend, valuing these skills as highly as driving experience.
