A business insurance specialist has partnered with the owner of a website exclusively for outside IR35 contracts.

Nathan Ansell, who founded Hend Consulting Ltd in 2019, has teamed up with accountant Ricky Whitfield, Founder of Outside IR35 Roles Ltd.

Bournemouth-based Hend Consulting specialises in business protection mainly for limited companies, directors and key employees.

Nathan, 42, has worked in the insurance industry since 2011, beginning his career with Branksome-based ProtectLine.

He said: “I love advising company owners for tax efficient benefits and helping them save tax plus getting the much-needed business protection they require.

“This ranges from relevant life cover, shareholder protection and key person cover to critical illness cover, income protection and private healthcare.

“So many companies don’t have shareholder protection but have multiple directors.

“This is high on my focus to make directors aware of the big risks of not having cover.”

Nathan, who estimates he’s helped more than 1,000 contractor clients during the last eight years, said Ricky and Outside IR35 Roles came to his notice through LinkedIn due to its contractor focus.

He added: “After we had a discussion, it was clear that Ricky’s focus is to help people and matched my ethical approach to work.”

Ricky, 32, launched Poole-based Outside IR35 Roles Ltd in June 2021.

A certified chartered accountant he previously worked for ClearSky Contractor Accounting, Martin and Company Accountants and Intouch Accounting.

Ricky said: “Coming from a contractor accounting background of over eight years – and seeing how tough it has been for contractors over the last few years with the IR35 legislation changes and the lack of support during the pandemic – made me want to do something that would make contractors’ lives easier.

“Nathan has also spent a large part of his career working with contractors, offering free advice with the contractors’ best interests in mind.

“When I saw he was local to me also it was a ‘no-brainer’ to reach out to see if there was a way we could work together.

“We met up for a beer and straight away I knew he was someone I would like to work with.

“He even sorted out my relevant life cover a few weeks later and so, after experiencing his approach first-hand, I then knew it would be a great fit with the users of my website.”

Also known as the off-payroll working rules, IR35 determines how an independent contractor should be taxed.

They’re designed to work out whether a contractor is someone who’s genuinely self-employed rather than a ‘disguised’ employee, for the purposes of paying tax.
