A Dorset specialist construction firm is trialling a new approach to recruitment by offering job opportunities to candidates with no experience or academic results.

Jade-Aden Services, based in Holton Heath, Poole, says it is looking for staff with a willingness to work hard, learn on the job and become part of a well-established team.

Grahame Gibson, Managing Director, said many young people were put off applying for jobs because they didn’t think employers were interested in them – but his company was removing that barrier.

He added: “For a variety of reasons not everyone is successful academically.

“I can identify with that as I also left school without any academic qualifications but it hasn’t stopped me building a successful business.

“If someone is hard-working and has the right attitude then that counts for volumes in my book and I’m only too happy to give them the break they’re looking for.”

Jade-Aden Services provides maintenance and refurbishment of old buildings through to full turnkey design and build developments for both industrial and commercial projects.

The company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017 by moving into a brand new, purpose-built unit on the Holton Heath Trading Estate, which provided 4,200 sq ft of office space and 3,600 sq ft of factory space.

It also has an office and fabrication facility in Plymouth, as well as a 4,000 sq ft structural fabrication shop in Dorchester.

Mr Gibson said an increase in demand for the company’s services had led to the change in recruitment methods.

He said: “We are looking to teach industrial and commercial building skills to candidates in a practical environment across a wide spectrum of our business .

“The only credentials we ask for are enthusiasm, willingness to learn, a hardworking ethic and the desire to become a good player in our team.

“There is no getting away from it. Our environment is a tough one – out on sites in all weathers, working safely at heights and using specialist plant and equipment – so we’re essentially looking for strong, hardworking candidates willing to put their utmost effort into building a career.

“This is a particularly good opportunity, and challenge, for open and honest individuals who maybe haven’t had the best academic results or who have found themselves in trouble and can’t get a break, to really make a name for themselves.
