Keeping each other safe – amendments to the resuscitation guidelines due to the ongoing risk from Covid-19
By Su Turner, Director of Sales and Marketing, Ouch Training Team Ltd
Here at Ouch Training we take great pride in both the training delivered, and the after-service support provided to our customers.
As we all know, the Covid-19 virus has created additional risks for those carrying first aid duties.
Because of this the Resuscitation Council (UK) has provided additional guidance on how to safely assess and provide life support for an unresponsive casualty.
Their additional guidance acknowledges the increased risk of infection due to close contact between the rescuer and the casualty and recommends appropriate modifications to existing practices.
The Ouch team wanted to share this important update with our customers, so we created a short video for all our Ouch trained first aiders.
The video is also available for everyone to view here on our website and features one of our experienced Ouch first aid trainers, David.
This video demonstrates and explains how to put the new guidelines into practice.
If you would like a copy for your first aid team, please email us at office@ouchtt.co.uk and we will transfer one over to you.
As one of our customers, Denise (a Contract Manager), said “What a wonderful resource for our first aiders, this has helped their confidence to know what to do if they were in this situation.”
Currently at Ouch we are using a blended learning approach in our first aid training.
This cuts down on the contact time but ensures all elements of the curriculum are covered.
The knowledge is accessed online and then the practical elements are delivered face-to-face where essential skills can be practised and assessed.
First aid training cannot only be delivered online, there has to be an opportunity to practice life saving skills with a qualified instructor.
The HSE First aid guidance document (GEIS3) states that blended first aid courses must have a face-to-face practical element.
