This month’s Q&A features a key member of our highly skilled and experienced team.
Name: Andrew Skinner
Role: Head of Office
How long have you been in the business?
I returned to Coleman nearly nine years ago having had a three year sojourn working in London. I was previously with Coleman for nine months, starting June 2008.
What’s your marine career background?
I have been in marine insurance for 34 years, starting in the Lloyd’s market for an insurer and working both sides of the fence for both insurers and brokers, which provides an insight to the pressures both bring. You meet some interesting people in our sector of the market who have great stories to tell about their careers and the companies they work with.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The people we place cover for and the team I work with. The job allows me to be nosey as you need to find out about people’s businesses and lives in order to do a proper job for them.
Use three words to describe yourself
Unfit, ageing and stubborn!
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to join the RAF Regiment.
Who do you most admire?
My wife. She has put up with me for 34 years, raised two wonderful sons and beaten every challenge thrown at her.
Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know
I dislocated my right knee at the age of 21 in a nightclub in Bournemouth, while on holiday – but that’s a whole other story!
