Construction of a £33m development of 60 properties at Canford Cliffs in Poole is set to begin in late 2021 after being given the green light by planners.

McCarthy & Stone’s Retirement Living PLUS development will consist of 25 one-bedroom apartments and 35 two-bedroom apartments, set within landscaped gardens.

The development will also provide several shared facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, restaurant, function room and mobility scooter store.

An on-site estate management team will look after the day-to-day running of the development, maintenance of the buildings and gardens.

The team will provide on-site domestic and personalised care and support services for homeowners, tailored to their needs, provided in-house and available on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The apartments will overlook Sandbanks and Poole Harbour and replace the former Carisbrooke flats in 172 Canford Cliffs Road.

McCarthy & Stone, a developer and manager of retirement communities, said the design will make for a development that will be sustainable and environmentally friendly while remaining in keeping with buildings in the local area.

Shane Paull, McCarthy & Stone’s Divisional Managing Director, Southern division, pictured left, said: “Poole is such a special location for anyone wishing to feel the joys of the English seaside or clifftop walks and we are thrilled that the homeowners of our 60 new high-quality dwellings will be able to experience this.

“Given the vast undersupply of suitable housing for older people, our development at Canford Cliffs will be welcome news for the significant number of people choosing to downsize to a home that is easier to maintain, while still ensuring their independence.

“The access to tailored domestic care packages and communal entertainment and dining spaces, all set within a landscaped development, will ensure our customers enjoy autonomy and support in equal measure.”
