Businesses urged to nominate themselves for a Queen’s Award

Companies are being urged to put themselves forward for a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

This year three Dorset-based businesses received the UK’s most prestigious business award.

HeliOperations and JPL Telecom won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade while Tops Day Nurseries received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development.

Now, as the nation celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Angus Campbell, Lord-Lieutenant for Dorset, pictured left, is urging others to apply for the 2023 awards.

He said: “I have been honoured to present a number of these awards in varied places of business across the county and I have been amazed at the variety and excellence of the successful organisations.

“The one thing they all have in common is that these winners have found that, being able to advertise themselves as winners of this prestigious and much sought-after award, is not only a source of great satisfaction and pride among the workforce of a company, but makes a significant difference to the successful promotion of their businesses.

“The award has a life of five years in which the logo can be used, and a flag flown.

“Nomination is by the business itself and work has to be done in supplying the detailed information that is needed, but all those who have succeeded agree that it was well worth the trouble taken.

“Up until now the numbers of awardees involved in Dorset are fairly patchy.

“This is certainly not because there is any lack of superb businesses in our splendid county but because it is not an award that is widely enough known.

“I do urge all businesses in the county to investigate the possibility of putting yourselves forward.”

Applications need to be submitted by midday on September 6, 2022.

Master baker ‘humbled’ after providing official Platinum Jubilee cake

A Poole master baker says he is humbled after being asked to design, make and decorate the official cake for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

After months of work by Mark Bennett, and under great secrecy, the cake was delivered to Buckingham Palace on May 30.

Mark owns patisseries in Ashley Cross, Broadstone, Christchurch, Lilliput and Penn Hill as well as The Bakehouse in Poole.

He said: “I could never have imagined that I would contribute to such an unprecedented event in British royal history – the commemoration of Her Majesty’s remarkable 70-year reign.

“I cannot find the words to describe how humbled I am by this honour.

“Anyone who knows me, will know I am a keen royalist and a patriot.

“For obvious reasons, the Palace requested that we keep this news a secret until the cake had been safely delivered.

“This achievement is a testament to our company and the immeasurable contribution of our dedicated team over the last ten years.

“I am grateful to my team for allowing me the time to devote to designing, making and decorating this cake for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“I could not have achieved this milestone without the unwavering support of my loving wife, Emma.”

We Do Ethical features in official Platinum Jubilee publication

We Do Ethical, the Bournemouth-based organisation headed by Founder and CEO Kelly Levell, is featured in the official Platinum Jubilee pageant commemorative album.

Published by St James’s House, the book features more than 250 images from throughout the Queen’s 70-year reign.

It is available to order here and is the only book product licensed by the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and permitted to carry the official logo.

We Do Ethical has a full page in the publication highlighting its target of planting 70,000 trees to mark the Jubilee.

Kelly, pictured, said her organisation was one of a select number to feature in the book.

She added: “I’m truly honoured that our tremendous passion for positive change has led to far-reaching projects, working with an inspiring array of changemakers working within the general public, councils and businesses for the past 13 years.

“Thank you to every single person who has helped to sustain our world and support our people and animals.

“We encourage people to plant a tree for the Jubilee, so we can celebrate the occasion with a wondrous gesture towards saving the planet.

“It’s about protecting what’s good.”

A Platinum Jubilee soirée was hosted by Paul Scates, The Mental Wealth Coach, at The Savoy on Bournemouth’s West Cliff.

Celebrity friends Harry Redknapp and former S Club 7’s lead singer, Jo O’Meara, joined in the celebration to support We Do Ethical’s tree planting pledge.

The evening was a big success growing the tree total to 36,000 pledges.
