Here’s where we shine the spotlight on a leading light in Dorset and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire.
This time…He loves a good curry with chapatis, gets frustrated at parking, chooses Studland and the Swanage area as his favourite part of Dorset and would like to be remembered for being kind and caring.
Lee Hill, Founder and MD, Insightful, takes the 20 Questions’ ‘hot seat’!
Question: What is your favourite TV show?
A: Too many to mention. Watching TV is a ‘go to’ for me to switch off. I love films and shows of all genres. From action, comedy, international, documentaries and reality TV. Nice mix of education, stuff to get lost in and pure indulgence.
Q: Who would you like to share a car with?
A: My dad. He passed last year so a nice car ride with him would be awesome.
Q: The best bit of my job is…?
A: I love seeing what we have achieved for clients; cliché I know but we really do care about performance and knowing we have made a difference.
Q: And the worst?
A: The job is hard at times, like running any business, but I don’t hate anything. The rewards are epic. I love this job.
Q: Who was your childhood hero?
A: My mum. To this day she still puts everyone else first. She worked her socks off to make sure I never went without and has left me with a great work ethic.
Q: What’s your favourite smell?
A: Immediate one that comes to mind is petrol lol! I really like it for some odd reason.
Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?
A: Studland and the Swanage area. I love the beach being set away from Bournemouth and Poole and slightly secluded at certain times of the year. I also love the charms of Swanage. I do love the mix of different experiences Dorset has to offer. It’s epic.
Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?
A: Push yourself, but don’t hold on to the mistakes you make, let them go. Learn from them and move on.
Q: What was your first record/CD?
A: Oh gosh, this is embarrassing! It was the Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, ‘Everything I Do, I Do It For You’.
Q: What gets you angry?
A: I think I am too chilled as I don’t ever really lose it or get really angry at work. At home I’m more irritable though. I think I have a split personality. Not sure that’s a good thing!
Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?
A: Really into 80s music at the moment. Going through a nostalgic stage, I guess.
Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?
A: Enthusiasm to learn, willingness to take charge and work hard.
Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?
A: I do love a good curry with chapatis.
Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?
A: Melon is not a dessert!
Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?
A: Contrast of styles – sea, countryside, forests, seaside towns, together with thriving multi-cultural towns. I love it.
Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?
A: Hire someone that knows what they are doing. Definitely not me. I’m sick of people voting for people they like instead of electing people who are best qualified. When did it become a popularity contest? No wonder the country is going through tough times.
Q: What’s your biggest frustration?
A: Parking. Why is it so hard to find parking these days wherever you go? Then you need to download a new parking app each time.
Q: Where’s your favourite holiday location?
A: I love South East Asia. I can’t wait to visit Vietnam; but maybe another year until that happens unfortunately. I will get to see more of Europe this year and visit some other countries that I’ve not seen yet. I love exploring and travel.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
A: Spending more time working and living abroad, whilst still consulting and running an agency. Being more involved in helping young entrepreneurs and speaking at events.
Q: What would you like to be remembered for?
A: Being kind and caring. It’s hard when you run a business as sometimes you have to make tough calls even if you like someone. But it’s key to have the right people to look after clients in the right way.
