Each week we shine the spotlight on a prominent person in Dorset and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…
She’d like to share a car with Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela; gets angry at bad manners, cruelty and injustice; chooses curry, a British breakfast and cake as her favourite foods and says Dorset has it all with an amazing coast and countryside.
Debbie Greenwood, Founder and Owner, Liaise Ltd, takes the ‘hot seat’ for our popular 20 Questions.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?
Answer: Oh heavens, I’m a bit of a telly addict! Who do you think you are? because I love to see the histories of families. I still laugh and love that Danny Dyer is related to The Queen. Long Lost Family, always makes me cry and then there is The Gilded Age. I adored the clothes, the sets and the storyline. Then again, I’m a sucker for a good cop series too.
Q: Who would you like to share a car with?
A: Barack Obama, I love that man, what he stands for and wanted and still wants to achieve. If he was alive, Nelson Mandela, he was awesome. I wouldn’t want the drive to stop with either of them. They both have such amazing stories and are such inspirations.
Q: The best bit of my job is…?
A: Spending time with people who want to make a difference to lives, both personally and at work.
Q: And the worst?
A: Frustration at not being able to change enough, quickly enough – although I tell my clients that real, great change takes time and commitment!
Q: Who was your childhood hero?
A: My parents. We had an amazing life, we didn’t have a lot of money, but we didn’t need it. We had a loving home, spent loads of time in the New Forest and the Purbecks. I always remember the picnics, whether it was on a sunny day sat out on a rug, or a cold day, sat in the car with soup and crusty bread. They showed me that the simple things in life are priceless.
Q: What’s your favourite smell?
A: Clean babies.
Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?
A: The Purbecks. It’s where I go when I need to re-energise myself. One of my favourite places in the world. How lucky am I to live so close.
Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?
A: Be open to opportunities that arise, even if they seem really scary, you just don’t know where they may lead. If I hadn’t stepped outside of my comfort zone, I wouldn’t be where I am now and I would never have known how happy that could make me.
Q: What was your first record/CD?
A: ‘Puppy Love’ by Donny Osmond.
Q: What gets you angry?
A: Bad manners (particularly when I’m driving), cruelty and injustice. I loathe one rule for one and one for another.
Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?
A: I have a very eclectic taste in music. One of my favourite classical pieces is Flower Duet, it sends shivers down my spine. If we are talking songs, it has to be Bohemian Rhapsody.
Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?
A: Open mindedness, curiosity, a sense of purpose and fun.
Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?
A: This is the toughest question, I just love food! But if pushed it would be curry, a good old British breakfast and CAKE! I looooove the cake!
Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?
A: What do you think, given my response to the previous question!!?
Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?
A: The variety of amazing businesses from a work perspective. As for living in Dorset, it is my second favourite place in the world after Scotland. We have it all, amazing coast and countryside. I LOVE it!
Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?
A: I think I would need a magic wand. I would love to make politics more honest. It seems to me the majority of MPs genuinely want what’s right for the country and its people, and I’d like to enable those who truly want to be able to do good to achieve what they set out to do.
Q: What’s your biggest frustration?
A: Not having enough energy (or money) to do everything that I want to do NOW!
Q: Where’s your favourite holiday location?
A: Scotland. I get over the border and just feel my shoulders relax. Italy is another favourite, Tuscany is stunning, as is the Amalfi Coast.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
A: My dream is to have a thriving business, working with organisations to make them amazing places to work. The plan being that I can also spend more of the year in Scotland, oh and Italy. I love that we can work from anywhere!
Q: What would you like to be remembered for?
A: Making a real difference to other people’s lives and having had a positive influence on workplaces.
