A fast-growing broth business now has its products sold by 30 pet stockists across the UK with its latest partnership opening up new markets in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Boil & Broth, founded by Rachel Down, is the only broth manufacturer to hold a dual licence to produce bone broth for pets and humans.

In May it announced a deal to sell its products in the North East after joining forces with distributor, Poochie Park.

Now the business has formed a new partnership that sees its bone broth being sold into Northern Ireland for the first time since Brexit.

EAT Raw, a Scottish raw pet food stockist, has come onboard as Boil & Broth’s distributor for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Rachel said: “Since Brexit we had to stop selling our products into Northern Ireland due to delays on the border.

“The couriers no longer offered a 24-hour express service to Northern Ireland and Europe, which means they can no longer carry perishable goods.

“This has been a major problem for small businesses like ours, because territories that we were once selling into are no longer available.”

With no resolution in sight, Rachel was delighted when Ian Gibson at family-run Eat Raw contacted Boil & Broth about becoming a distributor due to demand from his customers for a bone broth for pets.

The pet food retail stockist, which started life 19 months ago, sells premium quality raw pet food into retailers across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ian also revealed how he’s able to get quality raw pet food into Northern Ireland.

He said: “The problems at the border have affected our trade too.

“As soon as we were unable to use couriers to carry our products across the border into Northern Ireland, I decided to drive them myself.

“I bought a van, loaded up with orders and drove into the night to ensure healthy pet food continues to be delivered into Northern Ireland too.”

The new innovative relationship between the two companies will see Boil & Broth expand its human grade bone broth and kefir water into two new territories thanks to EAT Raw selling into retail.

Ian said: “We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for healthy pet products and bone broth is the perfect fit for our brand.

“There are so many health benefits for dogs when they include bone broth in their diet and we want to be part of that.”

Rachel, of Poole, launched Boil & Broth in 2018 after becoming dissatisfied with the pharmaceutical drugs she was being prescribed for a variety of health issues.

After carrying out her own research into the cause of seemingly endless infections she not only cured herself within 12 weeks but lost 2.5 stone in weight, followed by a further four stone.

The 41-year-old discovered how certain foods helped her and started to make bone broth, following a strict candida diet which she designed herself.

Rachel found her broth, home-made kefir water and supplements resolved her health and digestive issues.

She started Boil & Broth after people suffering similar health issues contacted her for help and advice.

Rachel said: “We stepped into the pet feed industry after being frequently asked if our products were okay for dogs.

“There are no vegetables in our broth.

“We add more bones, which is why there are so many health benefits to our broth and everything we sell for pets has been made for humans.”
