Karl Evans is proof that where there’s a Will there’s a way!

After an impressive 30+ year career in retail, latterly as Regional Operations Manager for Signet, responsible for around 150 stores across the H. Samuel brand, Karl has trained as a Will writer.

The 53-year-old has become a consultant with The Willwriting Partnership and an affiliated member of the Society of Will Writers.

The society is the leading self-regulatory body for professional estate planners with more than 1,700 members across the UK.

Latest figures estimate that 31m adults in the UK do not have an up to date Will.

Having lost close relatives and friends, and being left to deal with the estate, Karl said he had a true understanding of how difficult it is when a loved one dies without a Will.

He said: “Intestacy (the rules that apply when there is no Will) can be a long, drawn-out process which doesn’t consider the feelings of the family.

“I felt helpless and wasn’t sure what to do.

“I kept doubting myself that I was doing what my relative wanted.

“I never want anyone to go through that heartache.

“It comes at the worst possible time too, I just wanted to grieve.”

Karl, who lives in Poole and can help with all Will and estate planning needs, said he was looking forward to the new challenge.

He said: “After spending 30 enjoyable and rewarding years in retail, this year gave me the opportunity to take up something different.

“After some big changes in my previous company, I had the opportunity to take redundancy and spend some time looking at a new career that would utilise my skills and enable me to spend more time with my family.

“Retail is hard, especially in senior positions, and I would spend three or four nights away most weeks.

“Helping people is what I most enjoyed throughout my career and this needed to be at the core of any new career choice.

“Having seen an advertisement for my new role I knew straight away that this was perfect for me.

“I had a call with one of the directors of The Willwriting Partnership and the rest, as they say, is history.

“I am so excited to start my new career.

“It’s well paid and flexible enough to fit around my family.

“Best of all I know I’m doing something that I am passionate about and will help a lot of people.”

The Willwriting Partnership has been writing Wills since 1999 and provides a professional home-based service.

Antony Brinkman, Managing Director of The Willwriting Partnership and Chairman of the Professional Standards Board for the Society of Will Writers, said: “We have learnt a lot over the past 20 years but we still hold family values at our core.

“The face to face approach helps to ensure that each Will we write is specifically tailored to the client and their family.

“Our consultants offer a high level of service and support to everyone and no two are the same.”
