Seven employers have now stepped forward and joined forces with the newly launched Dorset Careers Hub to prepare young people for the world of work.
The hub, the first of its kind in the region, was launched to work with 40 local schools and colleges.
It’s an initiative involving Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (Dorset LEP), The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC), BCP Council and Dorset Council.
The primary aim is to improve careers support for young people across Dorset through a relentless focus on best practice.
Following the launch, a newly formed group known as Cornerstone Employers met to discuss their crucial leadership role for the Dorset Careers Hub.
The meeting was hosted by Superior Seals at its Wimborne site.
The role of the Cornerstone Employers is to act as champions to encourage new organisations to get involved as well as encourage their own staff to volunteer as ‘Enterprise Advisers’.
The seven organisations already committed to working collaboratively reflect the priority sectors in the region.
They are:
As part of the commitment, the companies will invest time and resources to open doors to workplaces and create inspiring opportunities for young people that will help them make informed career choices.
Rich Maidment, Talent Director at digital agency Redweb, said: “We’re thrilled to work with Dorset Careers Hub to ensure all young people across the region have access to the support and employer engagement opportunities they need to help make informed choices about their futures”.
Matt Prosser, Chief Executive, Dorset Council, added: “We are delighted to be a Cornerstone Employer and to show our commitment to help young people in Dorset prepare and be inspired for the fast-changing world of work.”
Dorset Careers Hub is part of a second wave of Careers Hubs across the country, backed by a £2.5m CEC investment to encourage best career education practice locally.
Dorset LEP is managing the CEC programme in Dorset.
A full time hub lead is based at Dorset LEP’s offices and working with a team of enterprise advisers and a new dedicated enterprise coordinator for Weymouth and Portland focusing on careers support for Dorset’s most deprived area.
