Smile please! Cosmetic dentist is to give away £5k makeover to mark National Smile Month

A prize from a cosmetic dentist is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Bournemouth-based Smile Stories is helping raise awareness of National Smile Month by giving away a £5,000 smile makeover.

The month, which runs from May 17 to June 17, is a charity campaign championing the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.

Dr Gareth Edwards. Co-Founder of Smile Stories, pictured left, said: “Despite the many improvements in oral health over the last 40 years, inequalities continue to be an issue for many people and National Smile Month is our chance to help others achieve better oral health.

“Oral hygiene is like any aspect of your health, once you let it slide and don’t keep on top of it, then it seems really hard to get back to where you should be, and lots of people just give up.

“Your dental hygiene is so important, not just for your physical wellbeing but also for your mental wellbeing.

“Being confident about your smile can change your life which is why we wanted to do this; we want to give someone that smile confidence back.”

As well as giving away a smile makeover, Smile Stories will also be sharing posts on their social media around the four key messages being promoted during National Smile Month for better oral health:

  • Brush teeth for two minutes, last thing at night and one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Clean between your teeth every day.
  • Cut down how much and how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
  • Visit a dentist regularly.

Gareth added: “Smiling and confidence are so closely linked.

“The feeling of receiving a smile from a stranger, or from someone you love and giving your biggest, most beautifully confident smile right back is what we live for.

“We want everyone to feel that good, all the time, that’s our mission.”

You can apply for the £5,000 smile makeover on the Smile Stories Instagram page here and by following and sharing the post on your own Instagram account.

National Smile Month is run by the Oral Health Foundation, an independent not for profit charity dedicated to improving oral health and wellbeing around the world.
