Sunseeker International is seeking 50 new technical apprentices to join the team at its shipyards across Dorset.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to kick-start a career in the global marine industry, studying to become highly skilled in a range of yacht construction disciplines.

Multiple technical pathways are on offer as part of the apprenticeship programme at the luxury performance motor yacht builder, Poole’s largest private employer.

They include carpentry, composites, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.

Taught over four years at Level 3 of the Regulated Qualifications Framework, the paid apprenticeship includes attendance at Bournemouth and Poole College’s Marine Technology Centre alongside on-the-job training at Sunseeker’s Poole and Portland shipyards, with full support from its highly skilled workforce.

The programme enables apprentices to ‘earn while they learn’ from some of the best yacht builders in the industry while completing the relevant apprenticeship standard, accredited by the Institute of Apprenticeships.

Upon completion of the four-year training programme, Sunseeker says earning potential is highly competitive.

The company points out there are plenty of opportunities for career development including advancement to manufacturing leadership.

Many members of the Sunseeker leadership team started their careers as apprentices themselves.

Applications for the award-winning Sunseeker Apprenticeship Scheme are now open and will close on Thursday March 31, 2022.

Applications should be completed online by visiting the Sunseeker website at: sunseeker.com/careers.

Originally named Poole Power Boats, the company was founded by brothers Robert and John Braithwaite in 1969.

The company changed its name to Sunseeker International in 1985 and has since become regarded as a global icon.

In August 2013 a majority stake in the business was acquired by Wanda Group, the Beijing headquartered conglomerate with strong footprints across China, Europe and the US.

From its manufacturing base in Poole, Sunseeker employs around 1,700 people and produces about 150 boats annually.

They range from 38 to 161 feet with 95 per cent exported.

Poole is also home to Sunseeker’s dedicated Design & Technology Centre.
