Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has cut the ribbon on its 10th retail outlet – the House Clearance Shop in Ferndown.
The shop promises to offer sustainable, pre-loved items at low prices, with all proceeds directly supporting the hospice’s vital services.
It was officially opened on last Wednesday 29 January by Jacqueline Swift, deputy lieutenant of Dorset, and Cllr Terry Cordery, mayor of Ferndown.
Locals gathered on the day to meet the team, enjoy refreshments, and browse the shop – which stocks everything from furniture to homeware.
Susan Newcombe, director of retail at Lewis-Manning, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our 10th shop in Ferndown, a vibrant hub at the heart of the communities we serve.
“This is not only an opportunity to offer even more amazing bargains, but also to highlight the important role our house clearance and recycling services play in supporting those with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Poole, Purbeck, East Dorset, Bournemouth and West Hampshire.
“There was a real buzz at today’s event.
“The shop was packed, and we even had queues at the till.
“There were lots of happy shoppers delighted at the array of items in store.
“The shop is spacious with plenty of storage space, and the added benefit of 20 free car parking spaces which makes shopping more convenient for our customers.”
Susan continued: “We’re incredibly proud of the impact our charity has on sustainability.
“Just last week alone, we sold 7,738 items, preventing them from ending up in landfill and saving an impressive 107,349kg in CO2 emissions.
“Expanding our retail network will help us further this mission and generate much-needed funds for our services.”
Jacqueline said: “I was thrilled to be here today and to help with the official opening.
“The new shop is a showpiece for the charity, a community hub where shoppers can come and find out more about hospice events, fundraising and volunteering opportunities.”
Supporting the opening were local businesses including Goadsby, Frettens Solicitors, Bradlea Builders, MBE Electricians, Talis Surveying, Karndean Flooring and Mauveworx.
Lyndsey Howard, volunteer manager, added: “For those who want to get involved, volunteering opportunities are also available.
“The hospice is always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join their team and help run the 10 shops – Wimborne, Westbourne, Christchurch, Ashley Cross, Swanage, Winton, Poole, Ringwood, Ferndown and Highcliffe.
“We’re proud that we currently have 112 volunteers working in retail, and they all make such a huge and much valued contribution to our charity.”
