His favourite food is curry – and he’d have steamed sponge pudding every day of the week if the waistline could hack it – he gets angry at insincerity and chooses the walk along to Old Harry Rocks from the Bankes Arms as his favourite place in Dorset. 

Steven Risk, Managing Director, Coleman Marine Insurance, A Gallagher company, takes the 20 Questions’ hotseat. 

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

Answer: The Thick of It.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: John Surtees and he would be driving. A true gentleman and a sporting genius.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: My team here at Coleman Marine. I’m simply privileged to work with such a special group of people.

Q: And the worst…?

A: I can honestly say that there is not one thing about my job that I could call the ‘worst’.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: Can I say both Sebastian Coe and John McEnroe as they would be neck and neck with nothing to choose between them?

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: Our sitting room at home when the Christmas tree is up.

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: The walk along to Old Harry Rocks from the Bankes Arms.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Always stick close to your principles and always stick up for what you think is right.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: Fear of Music by Talking Heads.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: Insincerity.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: The Lark Ascending.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: Honesty, commitment, ambition and self-awareness and they absolutely have to be team players.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: Curry.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: Steamed sponge pudding every day of the week if the waistline could hack it!

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: The balance between access to the coast and rural landscapes. Its history also fascinates me.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Right here right now, I’d extend the Christmas holidays by a day.

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: Myself at times and a need to check that I have locked the door (any door) 28 times before leaving the house.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: Sorrento, Italy.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: Working with the team at Coleman Marine looking after our clients’ interests and doing our bit in the local community. I am really proud of what we have achieved this last seven years, we have zero staff turnover and we are growing. Massively proud of what the team does day in day out.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: Being a good husband, good dad and a decent and fair boss to have worked alongside and, perhaps, for being one of best free kick takers in Essex youth football in the 80’s.
