Each week we shine the spotlight on a member of Dorset’s business community and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…

His favourite place in Dorset is Hengistbury Head; he gets angry when technology fails him or he fails technology; chooses sponge pudding, custard and golden syrup over melon and can’t get enough of short cruises.

David Coleman, Producer, DAL Productions Ltd, from Southbourne, occupies the 20 Questions’ hot seat.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

Answer: Well, as I’m approaching 60, I have a lot to choose from! What springs to mind is Miami Vice. Absolute game changer and an inspiration for what my wife Lynn and I are doing now.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: Lynn and I in the front, Quentin Tarantino in the back, telling us everything and anything.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: The opportunity to make great movies – really exciting.

Q: And the worst?

A: Waiting I guess, but we know it’s a feature of the film industry.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: My ‘O’ level history teacher was a Vietnam veteran with a big personality. I haven’t had a better teaching experience before or since.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: Food!

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: Hengistbury Head. Walks with Lynn and our Cavalier King Charles spaniel Max in all seasons.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Do the work. Become really good at what you are being paid to do.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: Don’t tell anyone but it was actually Tijuana Brass plays The Beatles. Still got it.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: When technology fails me or I fail technology.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: ‘If I Can’t Have You’ by Yvonne Elliman from Saturday Night Fever (which was my second date with Lynn). Still gets me every time.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: Lights on behind the eyes. Everything else tends to follow.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: I grew up in the restaurant trade and, to this day, I always look for premium fish and chips on a menu and then be really interested in how they serve it.

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: Sponge pudding and custard, of course, but don’t forget the golden syrup!

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: Fantastic lifestyle here with a strong connection to London.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Tell everyone to calm down.

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: The ‘always on’ aspect of technology. We all need to work hard to step away from it.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: Right now it’s short cruises. Can’t get enough of them!

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: Alive, in love, healthy and laughing.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: I don’t really think like that.
