A ‘heart of the community’ pub has reopened for business under new management after an initial £65,000 facelift.
The Red Lion in Winfrith, pictured left, is now operated by Barr & Barr’s Hospitality.
The family-run business also manages The Silent Woman Inn in the heart of Wareham Forest.
The initial investment included painting the exterior and upgrades to the kitchen.
A five-year plan is being put in place for The Red Lion, similar to The Onslow Arms in Loxwood, West Sussex, also operated by Barr & Barr’s Hospitality.
It was named Best Pub for Families in the Great British Pub Awards 2021 after a £250,000 investment.
The vision for The Red Lion is to create a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere for the local community.
A new smokehouse menu has been introduced for the pub’s restaurant made from local ingredients and featuring Barr & Barr’s own Saucy Cow smoked meats and sauces.
Award-winning craft ales are provided by Dorset brewers Hall and Woodhouse, owners of the pub.
Lizzie Barr, pictured left, Manager of The Red Lion which also includes five bedrooms and a campsite, said: “We are a family-run business so we are big on families.
“The team and I have loved reopening The Red Lion and getting it roaring once again.”
Rob Barr, Owner and Operations Director of Barr & Barr’s Hospitality – and Lizzie’s brother – said: “We are delighted to launch our unique smokehouse menu at The Red Lion.
“Along with a new menu, great offers and a five-year plan of investment in the site we are looking forward to getting The Red Lion back to being at the heart of the community once again.”
The B&B and campsite is due to open from April 15.
The Red Lion currently has a seven-strong team in place but is planning to have a staff of 15 by summer.
Both full and part-time positions are available.
