Welcome to the latest Marine Matters from Gallagher.
This month we meet Jack Spiers, a Yacht Broker with Clipper Marine in their Poole office.
We are proud to have a long-standing relationship with the Clipper Marine team and look forward to working with everyone at Clipper Marine for many years to come.

Jack Spiers, Yacht Broker, Clipper Marine.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was brought up in Southbourne and attended St Catherine’s Primary School and then Twynham School. I’ve been boating ever since I was a child and have always been on or around the water. I live with my partner and our six-year-old son.
I’ve been here in my role for just over a year. I previously worked in car sales for Jaguar/Land Rover.
I really enjoy working in the marine sector; in the summertime it’s particularly fantastic! I don’t think that there’s any better place to be than around the water. Combining that with selling boats and meeting people, it’s a great combo.
Tell us about Clipper Marine and the boats that you sell.
Clipper Marine is one of the leading new and used boat brokers in the UK, selling sailing yachts, motorboats and catamarans from £15,000 to £1,500,000+. We’re also a distributor for BAVARIA, Greenline Yachts, Bali Catamarans and REGAL power boats.
It’s a great selection of boats. Bavaria Yachts have both power and sail. REGAL boats are a great mid-size power boat, perfect for Poole Harbour, Old Harry and the Isle of Wight. Bali Catamarans are absolutely amazing, we showcased our very first one at the 2022 Southampton Boat Show last October. We subsequently sold out of our allocation for 2023 at the show.
We’ve been based in Cobbs Quay Marina in Poole for ten years. Our Head office is in Swanwick and we also have sales offices in Port Solent and Palma, Mallorca.
Clipper Marine was formed in 2008 by Matt and Richard and the business was initially solely a distributor for Bavaria Yachts. The first office was in Hayling Island and has grown ever since. Now we have a total of 17 staff.
We sell approximately 300 boats a year, both new and used. As Clipper Marine is privately owned, it allows us to have good and clear direction in the business and any decisions that need to be made can be made quickly.
We use British Marine or ABYA to carry out marine training and all our brokers are fully qualified around the laws relating to brokerage and how to deal with transactions – this protects both the seller and buyer. We’ve got a great team.
What’s an average day like?
No two days are completely the same, we’re constantly on or selling different types and styles of boats. One day I could be out on the water, sea trialling boats, the next day at a boat show, and on others, a mix of everything in between.
Since COVID, like many brokers, we have experienced very positive growth. Activity shot through the roof, everything went slightly crazy.
Demand is still very high with boats taking days to sell rather than hours but it’s still very buoyant (pun intended!). We often have buyers waiting for boats so a lot of the time they don’t even make it to the website.
Looking ahead to Spring, I think we’re going to have another great season, everyone is in love with the water down here.
As a business we go to all the major shows; Southampton International Boat Show, Dusseldorf, Birmingham Boat Life Show, Palma Boat Show and other local shows.
We’ve got a fantastic range of used boats across all of our offices and we’ve got some lovely new boats in stock, ready for the upcoming season.
Our customers are from far and wide and recent boat sales have seen boats being delivered to Bristol, all over the south coast, Ireland, South of France and the Balearics – even as far away as Cairns in Australia!
