The ballroom sparkled and there were standing ovations aplenty as Forest Holme Hospice hosted its Strictly Extravaganza gala dinner last weekend, raising a whopping £80,387.
Sponsored by Colten Care, the event welcomed more than 350 guests to the Lighthouse in Poole as 10 amateur dancers – all with a personal connection to the hospice – took to the floor alongside their professional partners.
Each of them had been training for weeks under the expert guidance of championship pro dancer and Dorset local Oliver Beardmore.
Paul Kinvig of Bournemouth Town Centre BID hosted the glamorous evening, which began with a champagne reception and gala dinner followed by a group dance featuring staff from Forest Holme and Colten Care.
Then came the Strictly-inspired competition, judged by an expert panel including last year’s winner Jason Edwards, professional dance teacher Alexandra Hixson and international ballroom dancer and author Maxwell Saban.
After all 10 had performed, it was Tom Redman and his professional partner Diana Coojacar who were crowned this year’s champions for their high-energy jive.
Claire Cooper, fundraiser at Forest Holme, said: “This event was truly magical – a night of joy, passion and community spirit that exceeded every expectation.
“To raise over £80,000 is simply phenomenal, and it’s a testament to the dedication of everyone involved.
“From the dancers and sponsors to our wonderful guests, each person played a vital role in creating this unforgettable evening.
“On behalf of Forest Holme, thank you for helping us make a real difference.
“With the glitterball shining brightly and the dance floor still echoing with cheers, the evening showcased not just the talent and effort of its participants, but also the unwavering support for Forest Holme Hospice and its mission to provide compassionate care.”
Among the evening’s sponsors was Poole’s own MSP Capital, which in December 2023 also hosted a weightlifting challenge in support of the hospice charity.
Eleanor Collins, a member of MSP Capital’s community committee, added: “Forest Holme is one of our four core charities.
“The Strictly Extravaganza has generated a great deal of local interest and raised an amazing amount of money.
“Well done to all the dancers on the night – there were some fantastic performances!”
