Virtual reality launch puts creative agency in the headlines on global business media brand

A Bournemouth creative agency found itself featured on the largest global business media brand after creating a virtual reality launch event.

UNBXD’s work for black women hair accessories brand, RUKA Hair, was highlighted on Forbes.com.

Its CGI virtual product launch consisted of four rooms with each giving a different and unique experience.

On entry the customer walks into the ‘Living Room’, a relaxing space that features a few of RUKA’s products, but also a talk between two women about their experience growing up with black hair and how that affected them.

Next users visit the ‘Salon’ which allows customers to explore the different types of hair extensions available along with a honest conversation about hair salon experiences.

The next room – which UNBXD says is its favourite –  is the ‘Cinema’.

Here users can find out about the history of black hair, from modern day figures such as Oprah and Ilhan Omar, to historical trailblazers like Marsha P. Johnson.

The final room is a fully interactive RUKA Shop.

William Niven, UNBXD Founder, pictured left with partner Danni Cotterill, said: “When you think about product launches prior to 2020, they would almost always involve a physical presence.

“This would incentivise shoppers to visit a location to learn about your product, how it works, and why it’s better than the rest.

“With that option off the table, we were tasked to build something outside the box (no pun intended).”

Web Developer Oli Gill and May Kojanavaranon, CGI Artist – both part of the UNBXD team – worked on the project.

Oli said: “It was an incredible honour and a great experience to work alongside RUKA Hair and the team at UNBXD in executing such a innovative and revolutionary idea from Tendai Moyo, Founder of RUKA.”

May added: “We created a completely 3D CGI Virtual Experience for the launch of RUKA Hair, an opportunity and a challenge in one.

“It was brilliant to be part of the team, working with them in the launch of products that will transform the hair market for black women.”

William said the virtual launch had received an “incredible reaction”.

“Within the first 24 hours more than 5,000 people had visited the virtual launch event and interacted with each of the four areas over 10,000 times,” he said.
