A water retailer has won a £4.3m contract with the Britannia Hotels group which has 61 hotels across England and Scotland including five in Bournemouth.

Source for Business, which is based in Bournemouth, will supply water and wastewater services to the group.

The contract was awarded after a highly-competitive tendering process.

A key part of the process was Source for Business’ offer of site audits to identify water efficiency measures that will result in a lower carbon footprint.

Signing the contract has already meant savings of around £240,000 for Britannia, as well as benefiting from the water retailer’s expertise around water efficiency and sustainability to further drive cost savings.

The hotel group’s saving is set to increase further as a figure of ten per cent of the total contract value – £430,000 – has been set as a target for savings.

Richard Stanbrook, Director of Source for Business, pictured left, said “We were delighted to sign this contract with Britannia Hotels, who are known for their collection of historic and beautiful sites across the UK.

“The contract sees us taking a partnership approach with Britannia Hotels to provide them detailed invoicing across their portfolio and to work towards improved efficiency, contingency and sustainability.

“This is being achieved by leveraging Source for Business’ expertise across water auditing, education and all types of infrastructure improvement across both water and energy systems” added Mr Stanbrook.

Britannia’s hotel portfolio includes Bournemouth’s Royal Bath Hotel, Britannia Hotel, Carrington House Hotel, Heathlands Hotel and the Roundhouse Hotel.

Paul Ratcliffe, Britannia’s Energy Manager, said: “Choosing Source for Business as our national water retailer has already given us the tools and visibility we needed to be able to achieve our initial targeted savings within four months.

“The savings, which have allowed us to offer even greater value to our customers, were achieved thanks to a combination of logger installations, leak detection exercises, site surveys and building optimisation exercises.

“We look forward to optimising our whole estate, thus delivering further significant savings, whilst at the same time helping our continued drive to minimise our environmental impact wherever and whenever possible.”

The contract is the latest in a series of tender wins for Source for Business since the non-household water market opened up to competition in April 2017.

Other key wins include Unite Students and BMI Healthcare.

Part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group, Source for Business operates as the national trading brand of Pennon Water Services; a 80:20 joint venture between Pennon Group and South Staffordshire Plc, both with more than 25 years’ experience in regulated water supply.

Pennon Water Services is licensed by Ofwat and provides water retail services across the country.

Source for Business currently serves more than 165,000 customers accounts nationwide. It is one of only four associated retailers to have achieved net growth in the new, competitive non-household market.

The company employs 120 people in Bournemouth.
