A new Director has been appointed at the Museum of East Dorset in Wimborne.

Chezzie Hollow will play a significant role in shaping the future of the town centre attraction.

She has a wealth of experience in the heritage sector.

As Senior Collections & House Manager for six years at the National Trust at Tyntesfield in Somerset, Chezzie oversaw a major visitor growth programme.

She was responsible for 400 volunteers on-site as well as overseeing 800 volunteers across a portfolio of properties.

Chezzie, who lives in Wimborne, also has an extensive background in leadership and creative thinking.

She said: “I am thrilled to be Director of the Museum of East Dorset at such an exciting time.

“Despite Covid-19 challenges, we have a phenomenal resource here.

“I am keen that the museum offers a great visitor experience for adults and children, families and schools alike.

“I also want to develop partnerships with local organisations and charities so that we remain an integral part of the community.

“The Trust’s vision is to celebrate our rich heritage through a vibrant museum and cultural hub which connects people with the past and offers enjoyment, learning and inspiration to visitors of all ages.

“I look forward to working with our trustees, staff and volunteer teams to build on the strong base that has been established by previous Directors and Curators.”

Chezzie joins the Museum of East Dorset, pictured, following the recent completion of a £1.8m Revival Project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The successful refurbishment and refit of the Grade II* listed town house opposite the Minster church, has secured the museum’s role as custodian of the heritage of East Dorset.

The museum holds significant collections, some of national importance, including rare archaeological artefacts, a unique collection of Victorian Valentine cards, ceramics and objects and photographic images related to the local history of the area.

Hands-on and interactive elements within the exhibition spaces are supported by a varied programme of events.

Visitors can also enjoy the Tea Room and heritage-planted walled garden, as well as the gift shop, second-hand bookshop and information centre.

From November to March, the museum and information centre will be open Monday to Saturday from 10am – 4pm, with last admission at 3.30pm, while the Tea Room is open daily from 10am – 4pm.

An annual pass, starting at £13, includes entrance to 11 galleries and exhibitions, and access to the Tea Room and garden.
