More than 200 entries have so far been received for the inaugural Wimborne Business Awards.

Organisers have hailed the response as “exceptional” and say it reflects the vibrancy of the town.

Giving a lunchtime update on the awards at Allendale House, Nigel Reeve, of Marketing West Events, said only Dorchester was ahead of Wimborne in terms of entries.

His company has successfully rolled out business awards in towns across Dorset including Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester/Poundbury, Sherborne, Weymouth, Bridport and Lyme Regis.

Described as ‘grassroots business awards’ they specifically focus on promoting the range and quality of the businesses in each area.

Entry is always free, the judging is independent with no outside influence, there’s a category to suit every business and the awards ceremony is open to all, at cost.

Nigel said: “The response has been quite exceptional and is a reflection of the vibrancy of Wimborne and its businesses.

“So far only Dorchester – with 257 entries for their awards – is ahead of you.”

Martin Pate, Chairman of Wimborne Business Improvement District, said the BID was delighted to support the Wimborne Business Awards.

He urged all businesses to take part adding: “You’ve got to be in it to win it.”
