Poole-based Greendale Construction has finished a contract to turn a dilapidated building into a luxury four double bedroom holiday cottage near Downton, Wiltshire.

The 42-week works involved major structural alterations after it was discovered that all existing walls were unconnected.

A steel frame was installed in the rear to tie the walls and support the new first floor; the front walls were tied with HeliBar; and a damp membrane system was added to all solid walls, metal stud and insulation lined prior to plastering.

The pitched roofs were completely replaced due to the amount of rot, and a loft conversion to create a split-level floor for the stunning master suite to the front of the cottage which also boasts a dressing area, as well as two further double bedrooms.

A single-storey side extension was built to form the living room, with aluminium sliding doors leading out onto the patio terrace and garden.

The cottage has also gained a new window and external doors, as well as a total internal fitout which includes a new main bathroom and shower room.

Meanwhile, building the workshops involved the total demolition of a rotten timber structure and rebuilding of various areas of damaged brickwork to plinths.

New timber studwork frames with timber posts, glulam beam & roof purlins were installed, with new insulated corrugated roofing sheets, lead work to the rear wall, and a rebuild of brickwork capping.

The workshops also benefit from a new toilet and sink, as well as new electrics.

Rob Hooker, director of Greendale Construction commented: “This has been a very rewarding project in a beautiful and quite unique location.

“The transformation from start to finish has been extraordinary.

“Thanks go to our client, the design team and our brilliant contracting team in delivering this amazing project.

“We’re now excited to be working the next large phase of the piggeries and holiday let section.”
