Shake and Stir does the business as popular vintage music and dance festival returns

By Andrew Diprose, editor

The Shake and Stir Festival is returning this year to Dorset with the backing of the business community.

Key sponsors on board already include Yellow Buses, Conker Gin, Richard Godsell, Humphries Kirk and Purbeck Ice Cream.

But festival organisers says there are still sponsorship opportunities available and the support of business is crucial to the event’s success.

Mandy Polkey, pictured right, of Stir Events, which is staging the popular vintage music and dance festival in Fisherman’s Walk and Southbourne Grove on June 27 and 28, said: “Yellow Buses are dressing a bus in our branding for two years.

“It will carry the logos of all our sponsors and is just one of the ways we will be promoting the great work of our sponsors.”

A shuttle bus will also run between the festival and local hotels.

There is also a business membership opportunity for pubs, hotels and offices to hold their own events.

New for this year is the Shake and Stir ‘fringe’ in the week leading up to the festival itself.

There will be monthly meetings with the business community at the Brewhouse and Kitchen.

The last Shake and Stir event in 2018 attracted 34,000 visitors and even more are expected for 2020.

Highlights this year will include:

  • Music from the 1920s-1970s on four different stages.
  • Classic car display.
  • Vintage fashion shows.
  • Lindy Hop dance classes.
  • 1940s themed area.
  • Watch With Mother 1960s themed area for children.
  • Mungo Jerry to celebrate the 50th anniversary of In The Summertime at the event.
  • DJ and teddy boy Dave Norrell to host the main stage.
  • Competitions for Vintage King, Queen, Prince and Princess.

Dawn Nottage. of Southbourne on Sea Business Association, said: “This is an amazing community event and I would urge all businesses, big and small to get behind it.”
