A social supermarket that provides members with essentials that they would not normally be able to afford has been named as Poole BID’s Charity of the Year.
Poole Waste Not Want Not (PWNWN) is recognised as offering a ‘lifeline’ to the community.
Its mission is to help people who have insufficient disposable income and need support in coping with life.
Poole BID received applications from across the town for its Charity of the Year.
However, only one charity could be selected with PWNWN voted as the Charity of the Year from April 1 2023 to March 31 2024.
Jacqui Rock, BID Lead said: “The current economic crisis was an important factor when it came to the Directors’ decision.
“Erika [Sloper] and the team at PWNWN not only offer an essential lifeline to low-income families.
“They also help with improving personal and social skills as well as coordinating their efforts with other local services such as food banks, local crisis teams, debt services and well-being.
“We look forward to supporting them with increasing awareness of the fantastic support they offer as well as helping to generate fundraising opportunities throughout the year.”
Erika Sloper, Charity Project Manager, said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to be chosen as Poole BID’s Charity of the Year.
“This is such great news for us.
“The last few years have been tough on all of us.
“As our charity grows the demand increases, which is having a detrimental impact on our finances.
“We know that we are needed more than ever.
“My passion to help our most deprived in Poole inspired me to connect with others in our community.
“Being part of Poole BID levy community has helped with vital opportunities and connections by working together to achieve our goals but, more importantly, gain awareness of the support we offer.
“I can’t thank Jacqui and Wendy [King, Poole BID’s Operations Manager] enough for their support.
“I’m very excited to see what 2023 has to offer.”
