It’s a brilliant charity – founded by the man behind Dorset’s newest, and most talked-about, hotel.

And next month you can play your part in raising funds for Room to Reward at a wellbeing on the beach day.

On average, around 140,000 hotel rooms sit empty and unused every night in the UK.

That amounts to £5 billion worth of wasted assets every year.

An unsold hotel room can never be sold again.

So, rather than let the room go to waste, why not use it as an opportunity to give a ‘thank you’ break to someone who truly deserves recognition?

Which is exactly what Christchurch-based Room to Reward does.

The unique charity partners with hotels across the country who donate their anticipated unsold rooms.

Charities and community groups then nominate their ‘Hidden Heroes’ for a well-earned short break.

Since being founded in 2015 by Nicolas Roach, pictured left, Chairman of the Nicolas James Group and owners of The Nici in Bournemouth, more than 700 hotels have joined the initiative.

Collectively, they have donated in excess of £550,000 worth of breaks in unsold rooms to more than 1,300 inspirational volunteers from over 700 charities and community groups.

Kate Wood, Fundraising Relationship Executive, said: “We’re fortunate to have tremendous support from our hotel partners, including some of the country’s most famous names and groups.

“We’re a tiny charity but with very long arms.”

Room to Reward has now announced  ‘Relax to Reward’ – a fundraising wellbeing on the beach day at Avon Beach in Mudeford on Wednesday July 6.

Starting at 2.30pm, the event comprises a variety of yoga and pilates classes including paddle-board yoga and various fitness treatments.

Light snacks and refreshments will be available together with health guidance and a fundraising raffle before culminating with cocktails and a silent disco yoga class at sunset.

Kate, pictured right, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing this event to Avon Beach and can’t wait for a fantastic afternoon of fun and fundraising.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the instructors and organisations who are supporting the event, along with our main sponsors, The Noisy Lobster, Hush Club, Temple Spa, Dorset Tea and OTO.

“Their amazing support has made what promises to be a wonderful event possible.”

Tickets for Relax to Reward are £50.

All the money raised through sales and events on the day will go towards Room to Reward’s mission to give some time back to the tireless volunteers who give so much to charities and communities across the UK.

Kate said: “All donations have a real impact on what we are able to do.

“Every penny we raise through events like this helps us make a real difference to charities, communities and the Hidden Heroes who do so much for them.”
