He’s loved mountain biking since 12 and is now turning his passion into a business.

Ben Mutton has officially launched Purbeck Bike Tours giving riders the chance to experience the thrills – and spills – of South Dorset.

The 38-year-old Sales Manager, who has been furloughed during the pandemic, will operate all-year round and in all weathers.

It’s starting as a part-time venture but, says Ben, “if I could turn my hobby into my career that would be the ultimate goal.”

He added: “I have worked in the events industry for many years and, as with millions of people around the country, I have had to re-evaluate and come up with new ideas for work.

“My main hobby has always been mountain biking and, having grown up in Purbeck in Dorset, I thought it was time to finally mix business with pleasure and set up a guiding company around the area.

“During the summer I became MIAS (Mountain-Bike Instructors’ Awards Scheme) Level Two qualified, first aid certified and a member of the Association of British Cycling Coaches, meaning that I am a fully-fledged mountain bike guide.

“With my local trail knowledge I have put together several routes which give riders the chance to experience the thrills (and spills) that South Dorset has to offer.

“I can also tailor routes to suit rider ability, preferred distances and to include any of the many iconic sites around Dorset.

“Groups of up to six riders can be catered for and equipment can be hired via a third party which we work closely with or clients can supply their own bike, helmet etc.

“The benefits of getting out in the countryside are well documented and the stunning Jurassic Coastline is unrivalled.”

Ben, who lives in Poole but grew up in Swanage, is engaged to Louise.

The couple were due to get married this year at The Green House Hotel in Bournemouth but the ceremony has been postponed to next May due to Covid-19.

Ben said: “If you are looking to bring your team back together in the great outdoors, or are planning a trip to this beautiful part of the country, and are looking for activities to do when you get here why not book a tour with us?”
