And they’re live…!

The first Bournemouth Business Awards have been officially launched.

Fourteen business categories – plus an Overall Business of the Year – are up for grabs.

Unlike some other awards, these truly are the people’s business awards.

Not flashy and you won’t have to don a dinner jacket and bow tie – or shell out for an expensive ticket – as, when and if you’re fortunate enough to win.

The Bournemouth Business Awards are the latest in a series of successful local business awards across Dorset, organised by MW Events.

They include Poole, Wimborne, Dorchester/Poundbury, Sherborne, Weymouth, Bridport and Lyme Regis.

Described as  ‘grassroots business awards’ they specifically focus on promoting the range and quality of the businesses in each area.

Entry is always free, the judging is independent with no outside influence, there’s a category to suit every business and the awards ceremony is open to all, at cost.

Sponsors already signed up are Saffery Champness, Dutton Gregory, NFU Mutual, Bournemouth University and the Bournemouth University Business School.

Dorset Biz News is proud to be the official Media Partner while Hot Radio is the official Radio Partner.

Nigel Reeve, of MW Events, pictured left, said: “The ethos behind the awards is to be simple, fair and transparent.

“The awards are to promote the range and quality of local businesses and we want the category winners to be proud to display their trophies.

“Just five of the Bournemouth Business Awards categories remain to be sponsored.

“If anyone would like to become a sponsor please let us know.”

The award categories are:

  • Best Place to Work
  • Best Use of Innovation
  • Café, Pub, Entertainment
  • Excellence in Customer Service
  • Green/Eco-Business of the Year
  • Health, Beauty and Fitness
  • Independent Business of the Year
  • Local Artisans and Produce
  • New Business of the Year
  • Outstanding Community Support
  • Professional Services Business
  • Retail Business of the Year
  • Young Entrepreneur/Rising Star
  • The Dorset Mind award for businesses that show an ongoing awareness and commitment to improving mental health in the workplace
  • Overall Business of the Year

Entries close on Monday April 11.

Anyone, including the business itself, can make a nomination via the dedicated website at bournemouthbusinessawards.co.uk.

The awards ceremony, on Thursday May 26, will be hosted by local personality Jay Rachet, pictured right.

Nigel said: “We started these awards to promote local business, after the damage done by Covid.

“Our policy is to ensure we don’t lose this focus.

“Entry is free and businesses can enter as many categories as they want.”

The launch ceremony was held at Bournemouth University.

Among those attending were supporters, including Yellow Buses/Yellow Coaches and Bournemouth Chamber of Trade & Commerce, as well as winners from other awards staged by MW Events.
