Each week we shine the spotlight on a prominent person in Dorset and ask him, or her, for answers to our part fun/part serious questionnaire. This time…

Her favourite place in Dorset is Hengistbury Head, she gets angry at people swearing in front of children, enjoys listening to uplifting music in the gym, and would like to be remembered for being calm and kind. 

Rebecca Clayton, Director/HR Consultant, R Human Resources, takes the ‘hot seat’ for our popular 20 Questions.

Question: What is your favourite TV show?

Answer: I love watching Gogglebox – it’s perfect for people watching.

Q: Who would you like to share a car with?

A: Chris Evans (the DJ), Sir David Attenborough and Princess Diana.

Q: The best bit of my job is…?

A: Working with business leaders/owners that are passionate about their staff; it makes the job rewarding. Also solving complex people issues is hugely satisfying.

Q: And the worst?

A: I honestly can’t think of anything that I don’t like.

Q: Who was your childhood hero?

A: My granddad; he was incredibly calm and kind. He passed away when I was 21 and I’d love to be able to go back, appreciate my time with him, and ask him all the questions that I never asked.

Q: What’s your favourite smell?

A: Coffee – it smells nicer than it tastes!

Q: Where’s your favourite place in Dorset?

A: Hengistbury Head – I love walking over the headland and seeing the sea all around me.  It’s beautiful in any weather.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone starting out on a career?

A: Work for an organisation that you believe in and where you feel comfortable and can be yourself. Have a job that you love and if you don’t enjoy it, be brave enough to change your job or career, however daunting and difficult that may feel.

Q: What was your first record/CD?

A: ‘It’s Alright’ by East 17.

Q: What gets you angry?

A: People swearing in front of children.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece of music?

A: I enjoy uplifting music which I listen to whilst at the gym.

Q: What are the qualities you look for in a new employee?

A: Someone who I know I’ll work well with and where trust can be built quickly. I also look for people with different technical and interpersonal skills to me.

Q: What’s your favourite food or dish?

A: Steak and chips. I could quite happily be vegetarian if it wasn’t for steak!

Q: Steamed sponge pudding and custard or a plate of melon?

A: Without a doubt, sponge pudding with lashings of custard.

Q: Name the best thing about living/working in Dorset?

A: Being able to take time out for a walk at the beach – it’s fantastic for my wellbeing.

Q: If you were Prime Minister for the day what would be the first thing you do?

A: Only appoint MPs to their positions if they’ve truly lived and worked like the general population. I’m not sure they really understand the impact the cost of living is having on people and families at the moment.

Q: What’s your biggest frustration?

A: There aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes. Running a business whilst being a mum of two is a juggle at times but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Q:  Where’s your favourite holiday location?

A: I don’t have a favourite specific location; I like to travel to different locations.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?

A: I’ll still be running R Human Resources which will have grown but I’ll have teenage children as well – that’s a scary thought!  I’m hoping we will have travelled more as a family too.

Q: What would you like to be remembered for?

A: Similar to my granddad – for being calm (my children will probably say that I need to work on this!) and kind. It would also be fab to pass R Human Resources to future generations.
