Dudsbury Golf Club seniors section raise £3,119 for JTYAF

Generous members of Dudsbury Golf Club’s Seniors Section have been thanked for raising £3,119 for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).

Rob Bury, Seniors Captain, chose JTYAF as his ‘Charity of the Year’ in 2020 but due to the Covid restrictions the partnership ran for two years.

Rob said: “I have been privileged to know Peter and Linda Thornton for over 30 years, so it was both an honour and a pleasure to nominate the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation as my charity.

“The amount raised, in spite of the pandemic, was a tribute to a young man, born and raised locally, who gave his life for his country and in whose memory young people are being helped to achieve their goals.

“Grateful thanks are due to the members of the Seniors Section at Dudsbury Golf Club for their generosity.”

Pete Thornton, JTYAF’s Chairman, described the amount raised as an outstanding achievement.

All the funds will help provide bursaries and scholarships for young people.

He added: “Young people are experiencing many challenges in these uncertain and difficult times and need our support more than ever before.

“We really can’t thank the Dudsbury Seniors enough for helping us to continue to do the work we do.”

Be Free From Cleaning named as finalist in national business awards

Bournemouth-based Be Free From Cleaning has been named as a finalist in The Family Network Business Recognition Awards.

The family-friendly business, owned by Bonny Mayorga and Chelsea Watts, is up for an award in the Best Business Growth category.

The winners will be announced on March 5 at The Forest of Arden Hotel in Birmingham.

“Being self-employed we can choose our hours and take time off to focus on our children.

“We are continuing to grow our company focusing on domestic cleans as well as expansion into other towns.

“In November 2021 we also started a commercial cleaning company with the focus on property management, also providing plumbing and maintenance services in commercial properties.

“We are still planning on growing both companies to their greatest potential and may also look into further projects.”

Chelsea, pictured right, said: “We are beyond blown away by how fast our business has grown.

“Being alongside Bonny is an added bonus.

“We are so grateful.”

Surfing, sustainability and a super-volunteer

Verwood-based The Biome Project has dived into a unique film collaboration with record breaker and ‘super-volunteer’ Oly Rush.

The Community Interest Company (CIC) creates educational content about the planet and wildlife.

It works with co-brand The Wild Agency, an environmentally conscious video, marketing and PR agency.

The Biome Project has now created a short documentary called ‘Rush‘.

It follows Oly as he removes truckloads of plastic from the Dorset coast, while training for long-distance charity swims.

Both brands collaborated with Oly and Project Planet on the project.

Mike Coggan, Managing Director, The Wild Agency, said: “We were keen to work with Oly and make a film that combines cinematic storytelling with environmental volunteer work, using our home – the Dorset coast – as the backdrop.”

Oly, pictured right, said:, “The impact plastic pollution and discarded fishing gear has on ocean life is devastating.

“In the last two years, I’ve organised record-breaking charity swims.

“The Biome Project brings my story to life on film, documenting my brutal swims and endeavours to protect our oceans.

“Please watch the documentary.

“In May 2022, I will attempt a world-record, nonstop swim around the Island of Grand Cayman to raise vital funds to actively fight plastic pollution across the Islands.

“Do view my fundraiser video and please donate to the cause!”
