Nineteen businesses raised more than £10,000 with a charity golf event to support special forces veteran Mark Bowra’s campaign to help people like him recovering after a stroke.
The Bowra 1000 Holes of Golf event was organised by Wimborne-based financial advice firm Lester Brunt Wealth Management and held at Ferndown Golf Club.
Eleven teams of four teed off at the course and completed 1,188 holes of golf raising more than £7,700 for the charity on the day.
A further £2,500 was pledged in an auction run alongside the event.
Mark Bowra was a decorated UK Special Forces officer who had tested himself in some of the toughest environments on earth when he suffered a devastating stroke in 2014.
It confined him to hospital and he was unable to walk for more than a year.
Mark subsequently took part in the Invictus Games before setting up the Bowra Foundation in 2019.
Its focus is on bringing together people with neurological injuries and members of the armed forces community to complete physical challenges.
Mark recently completed a largely virtual Bowra 1000 after his bid to cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End fell victim to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He completed much of the route on static equipment in his garage until he was able to complete the final miles through Devon and Cornwall as restrictions eased.
Lester Brunt Wealth Management is backing the Bowra Foundation and supporting Mark in inspiring other veterans and people living with neurological conditions to overcome the challenges they face.
Ed Bell, Managing Director, Lester Brunt Wealth Management, said: “Mark Bowra is an awe-inspiring man, not just for his service in the special forces but the way he has come back from such a devastating stroke to help and support so many other people.
“After a difficult few months, the response we received to the golf day was amazing.
“To be able to gather in a safe way to help raise money for a worthy cause has just been fantastic.
“I must thank everyone who has supported the event through their fundraising efforts.
“We are delighted with how the day turned out and are proud to support Mark and the Bowra Foundation in whatever way we can.
“It was brilliant to attract a number of big companies to join us for the day to support such a good cause.
“Even better, we are well on our way to exceed our fundraising goal of £10,000.
“I look forward to handing over the final sum to the Bowra Foundation.”
Mark said:: “Having only established the Bowra Foundation in 2019, receiving such a level of support from businesses like Lester Brunt is extremely humbling and absolutely transforms what we are able to do at this early stage.”
