Lewis-Manning’s stunning community event ‘Candles on the Beach’ is arriving in Swanage!

Join us at 5pm on Saturday December 10 on Swanage Beach to reflect, celebrate and remember everyone we love and care about with a spectacular display of candles on the sand.

There will also be music from local musicians and a reflective reading to those we have lost.

Vicki Gray, Fundraising Manager, pictured left, said: “We are really excited to bring this hugely popular event to the amazing community of Swanage.

“It’s free for all to join, so tell your friends, neighbours, colleagues, and family to come along to this spectacular evening.

“We encourage supporters to make an online donation for a candle(s) prior to the event to avoid any disappointment, alternatively candles will be available on the night.

“If you would like to add a personal dedication to your candle, facilities to write your own message will be available.

“It will be a memorable and meaningful celebration where families and friends can come together to reflect, remember and celebrate loved ones.”

“Music will be performed by local musicians and a short reflective reading will be given by Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

“Volunteers will place the candles on the sand to create a magical display of lights.”

Be part of the ’30 for 30’ team

In 2022, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has been celebrating its 30th anniversary.

We’ve been asking for 30 local businesses to pledge to raise £1,000 each throughout the year so that the charity can raise £30,000 from 30 businesses in our 30th year.

Your fundraising will do extraordinary things.

It will help so many local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Sound like fun?

If you and your business would like to get involved, please contact us today by emailing fundraisingteam@lewis-manning.org.uk or call 01202 708470.

You can also download our 30 for 30 Fundraising Pack, which contains a digital banner, a 30 for 30 digital badge, a fundraising ideas brochure and more.

Why not have a declutter and donate your preloved items to your local Lewis-Manning Hospice Care charity shop?

We are asking all of our corporate friends if you’d be happy to pop one of our stock donation dump bins in your office, then simply ask your colleagues to donate their preloved items?

By donating your clothes, shoes, bags, sunglasses, suits (the list is endless) you’ll be helping to provide extraordinary hospice care in your community.

You can do a really good thing and:

  • Turn trainers into treatment
  • Clothes into care
  • Shoes into support.

Sound good?

If you and your business would like to get involved, please contact us today by emailing fundraisingteam@lewis-manning.org.uk or call 01202 708470.

We’re proud of our dedicated and committed team.

This month we spoke to our Senior Staff Nurse for Purbeck, Nicky Cherrett.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Making a difference to people’s lives by them attending Day Hospice or providing respite sits.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

To never rule anything out.

Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t know.

I used to have a 17-bedroom hotel.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Passionate, caring and loyal

If you were going to rule the world for the day, what law would you introduce?

For everyone to care for each other.

Your best place for a holiday is?

Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. We have been going to Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus for seven years now, twice a year.

It is on the Turkish side of Cyprus, it is very unspoilt and the people are friendly. Another plus side is that it is very cheap for eating out.
