It’s a community project the likes of which has probably never been seen before in Wimborne.

Or, quite possibly, any other town or community in the UK.

A full-length feature film, born out of lockdown, written and filmed by well-known Wimborne performer Andy Oldfield and with 42 locals in its cast list.

And now to be screened in a matinee premiere at the town’s Tivoli Theatre with every penny going to the much-loved venue.

If every seat is sold then that means £4,800 will be raised.

Andy, who by day fits woodburning stoves but by night can be seen performing in pubs and clubs across the area, said: “I think what we’re doing is a first.

“I’ve certainly never come across anyone attempting this before.”

Inspired by the 2019 film, Dolemite Is My Name starring Eddie Murphy, Andy started work on the script for his film – Never Think Twice! – during the first lockdown.

Described as ‘a rip roaring race against time and the devil’ it’s an intriguing plot.

Andy, pictured left, said: “Two Wimborne school boys discover that a complete festival stage is in storage at their uncle’s farm.

“Being entrepreneurial they realise that they have everything to stage their own festival apart from £30,000.

“Not being careful what they wish for, they unwittingly sell their souls to the Devil and become caught up in a race against time

“Meanwhile Randolph Sewell, a top end London art dealer, resells a stolen rare painting only to have it re-stolen to be sold again on the black market.

“Unfortunately, during the robbery, the two cat burglars kill the owner and have to stash the painting in a barn before hightailing it back to London

“When the thieves return to collect the painting it is now, unwittingly, in the hands of the two boys, and this is where the stories collide!”

Andy self-funded the film and recruited the cast from his large circle of friends and acquaintances.

They include some familiar Wimborne faces – such as John Bell aka John the Fish – with filming on a digital SLR at locations across the Wimborne and Poole area, including pubs and farms.

Andy said: “It’s just been so much fun and we’ve literally rolled around with laughter.

“We were also fortunate to have some really talented people to help us including a student at Bournemouth University who is studying prosthetics.

“She came up with some amazing creations, including a severed head in a box.”

The film, lasting one hour and 36 minutes, has been certified as 12 by Dorset Council’s licensing department.

Andy said: “They thought it was absolutely hilarious.

“I’m very proud of what’s been achieved.

“It’s been a real community project, as well as lots of fun, and I don’t think there are many other places that could do such a thing.

“Now we want to pack out the Tivoli Theatre and raise as much money as possible.”

Never Think Twice!, which is a Green Socks Production supported by Radio Wimborne, is being shown at the Tivoli on Sunday December 4 at 12.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 and are available here.
