The new owner of a Dorset-based intellectual property (IP) company says it is looking forward to supporting the business community in an area listed as an innovation ‘hot spot’.

Albright IP, which is based in Cheltenham, has acquired Atkinson Wheller following the retirement of one of its founders, Michael Wheller.

Established in 2007, the IP law firm protects the IP assets of over 2,000 companies across the world, including Europe, the US and China.

Managing Director Robert Games, pictured left, said: “We were approached by Michael who was looking for an established, reputable company that could take over the business.

“We saw this as a great opportunity to expand our geographic customer base as we already have offices in London, Gloucestershire and Cornwall and we’re delighted to welcome the new clients into the fold.

“We’re looking forward to getting to know our new clients, and the wider Bournemouth business community.

“The area has been listed as a hotspot for business innovation and within Albright IP we have a wide range of specialist IP attorneys.

“We hope we can further support the business community as it continues to innovate and develop.”

The purchase means that clients of Atkinson Wheller will now have access to a greater pool of specialist IP experts with sector expertise across engineering, physical and chemical sciences, electronics, software and product development to name but a few.

Albright IP’s Bournemouth office is sited at the Aviation Business Park at Bournemouth Airport.
