Goulds Stores has gifted 50 duvets with a retail value of more than £3,250 to Ukrainian families settling in the local area.

The department store’s donation was delivered to a newly opened warehouse on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth.

Organised by the Weymouth for Ukraine group, the warehouse redistributes donations to families from the war-torn country moving into the Dorset area.

Ukrainian families can select clothing, school uniforms, and essentials for everyday living – and now, sleeping, thanks to the Goulds Stores’ bedding donation.

Chris Gould, Company Director, said: “Local community is important to us, and we always try to help where we can.

“When we heard a new warehouse was opening in the area, we contacted Gail, the organiser, to see how we could support Ukrainian families settle into their new local homes.

“These 50 duvets will hopefully help”.

Gail Reynolds,  Organiser, Weymouth for Ukraine, said: “What a great donation.

“This generous gift from Goulds Stores is a welcome bonus and provides one of the essential, and often most expensive, items the families need.

“The bedding will go straight to the Ukrainian families who need it, whether they are guests of local people or finding independent accommodation.”

The Weymouth for Ukraine warehouse opened its doors on May 31.

It is the brainchild of Gail and Caroline Whitely.

Both recognised Ukrainian families need access to essential items locally, especially after the closure of a similar facility operating temporarily in Bridport.

While the new Weymouth warehouse will hold the remaining stock from the Bridport closure, it is also on the lookout for donations to meet the increasing demand.

Caroline said: “We are delighted with the response we have received so far, but more is needed.

“We are open from Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 12 noon.
