More than 300 people are registered to attend a festive celebration of St Nicholas Day organised by the Dorset Ukrainian Community.

The event is held this Saturday, December 17, at Citygate Church in Bournemouth from midday to 4pm.

Dorset Ukrainian Community is an organisation that focuses on the needs of Ukrainian refugees.

It helps their integration as well as supports the mental health of adults and children.

Anastasia Pikalova, Leader and Founder, said: “St Nicholas, like Santa, brings joy, fun, hope and belief in miracles to children.

“We all know that Ukrainian kids were torn from their familiar environment, deprived of their home and childhood.

“This and similar events are designed to help the kids adapt through things that are familiar and close to their hearts and remind them of happy times.

“This celebration will allow over 150 children to have fun, enjoy a show and receive gifts and treats.”

Anastasia, who is pictured with her family, said: “Let’s take this opportunity, together, to make this celebration an opportunity to share the warmth of our hearts with the community.

“In addition, advisors from different organisations will join us and be on hand to advise Ukrainians on key life in the UK – topics such as work, education, language courses and much more.

“We are looking forward to this great event with over 300 people who have already registered to attend and registration is still open.

“This is unprecedented!”
