Celebrate the extraordinary life of a true national hero, raise much-needed funds for a popular charity and help the environment at the same time.

That’s the invitation from young carers charity MYTIME which is organising a #CaptainTom100 beach clean this Sunday, May 2 at 10am.

It will start from MYTIME’s Retreat Centre in Worth Matravers, pictured.

The aim is for 100 people to each pick 100 pieces of litter over 100 minutes.

If each raised £25 the charity will be able to support 100 Young Carers on a Memory Making Day.

Krista Sharp, CEO, pictured left, said: “The reason we chose this is because MYTIME really values the natural environment around our centre.

“We take groups of young carers to stay there, providing them with valuable breaks from their caring responsibilities.

“This is our chance to put something back.

“Fundraising is optional, however.

“We are just thrilled that people are coming along and joining in.”

Litter pickers, disposable gloves, and bin bags will be provided, but anyone taking part is asked to wear sensible footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.

They may also wish to bring thicker gloves, and wear high visibility clothing, but this is left to each person’s discretion.

Tea, coffee and cake will be available after the litter-pick.

Hand sanitiser will be provided on the day.

Everybody is being asked to stay within their bubbles of six (or of two households) as much as possible.

Captain Sir Tom Moore raised almost £33m for NHS charities by walking 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden before he turned 100.

He died in February.

This weekend would have been his 101st birthday.
