New McDonald’s restaurant opens at Weymouth Gateway retail park
More than 120 full and part-time jobs have been created with the opening of a new McDonald’s at the Weymouth Gateway retail park.
Weymouth Mayor Cllr Ann Weaving cut the traditional ribbon for what proved to be something of a trip down memory lane.
She said: “It gives me immense pleasure to open this brand-new McDonald’s restaurant in Weymouth.
“It’s especially personal to me as I started my working life in McDonald’s first-ever UK restaurant in Woolwich.”
As the community celebrates this milestone, patrons can also share their feedback and experiences through platforms like www.mcdvoice.com, ensuring that McDonald’s continues to evolve and serve its customers with excellence in the years to come.
The restaurant, off Mercery Road, opened to the public from yesterday, May 18, for dine-in, takeaway, Drive-Thru, delivery services and Click & Serve.
It follows a significant investment by local franchisee Chris Truscott who now owns four restaurants across Weymouth and Dorchester, employing more than 400 people.
He said: “Our restaurant teams are proud of the positive role we play in the communities we serve and look forward to continuing to see local customers enjoy our services on offer.”
The new restaurant boasts all the latest innovations from McDonald’s.
Table service is available and self-service kiosks mean visitors can order at a speed that suits them, while easily accessing nutritional information.
Smart Digital Drive-Thru menu boards have also been installed.
The My McDonald’s App is available to use at the restaurant, allowing customers to order and pay contact-free for their meal ahead of time.
Customers can choose delivery, Drive-Thru, pick-up at the counter or park up for a delivery to their car with the Click & Serve feature.
The app sends a notification to the kitchen as soon as customers are within 100m of the restaurant, meaning all orders are prepared fresh on arrival.
The nationwide introduction of Table Markers means customers can choose to find a table, order through their phone, and have their food delivered straight to where they’re sitting and is available exclusively through the My McDonald’s App.
Recruitment for the new restaurant is still ongoing.

Still time to apply for countryside Student Support Fund
Get your skates on land-lovers!
Time is fast running out for Dorset’s farmers of the future, new generation gardeners and countryside careerists to have a chance of gaining financial support while they study.
Applications for an innovative Student Support Fund close at the end of this month.
The brainchild of Gillingham and Shaftesbury Agricultural Society, organisers of the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, the fund is only in its second year.
It specifically supports students entering into agricultural, horticultural, countryside and land-based industries.
Help is offered with the costs of college or university course fees, books and equipment or to help meet the travel expenses of getting to a place of study from a rural location.
Matthew Price, Chair, who was part of the team that launched the initiative, said: “From my previous work in the NFU and roles as a governor of a land-based school and college, I know it’s frequently the case that financial restraints create barriers to students accessing and fulfilling education and training.
“The Student Support Fund sets out to ease those financial pressures by offering modest but worthwhile grants up to a maximum of £1,500.”
Last year, the fund gave out £6,000 in grants ranging from money for hard-cap boots and safety helmets to helping fund course tuition fees.
The easy-to-complete application form must be submitted by May 31.
