Did you know?

  • The carbon footprint of clothes disposal in the UK is around 2.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions
  • On average, in the UK, 11 million items of clothing are thrown away weekly.
  • Annually, the UK retail Charity sector diverts over 327,000 tonnes of textiles from landfill into reuse and recycling; and reduces CO2 by 7m tonnes

Thankfully sustainable shopping has become a lot more fashionable with more people considering, and acting upon, purchasing pre-loves items from vintage stores or second-hand shops around the world.

In 2020, spending in charity shops reached 746 million pounds in the UK

2023 produced extensive growth across Lewis-Manning’s retail outlets.

  • Total sales increased by 55%
  • Items sold increased by 54%
  • The average transaction value was £7.41
  • The average item value £5.06

“Buying preloved things and giving longer life to clothes is one of the most sustainable actions we can all take”

At Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, our retail team, work incredibly hard to maximise all opportunities to raise much needed funds to deliver the extraordinary care we provide to our patients.

This can only be achieved by the kind and generous donations from our local community.

We all have…

  • That one item of clothing that just hangs in the wardrobe but never gets worn?
  • That bag of bric-a-brac that hasn’t yet made it to the Charity Shop
  • Said that we will have that ‘sort out’ or declutter

Please consider donating today and help make a real difference to people’s lives.

Local marketing agency Mauveworx have installed a ‘Donation Station’ at their headquarters. Ian Turner, Business Unit Director of Retail at Mauveworx, said:

“It is a real pleasure to support Lewis-Manning because of the vital care that they provide for patients and families with life-limiting illnesses in the local community

“We are always looking for new ways to engage with the charity and the Lewis Manning Team are always on hand to provide varied and diverse ways to fund raise and get involved.

“The latest initiative is the new ‘Donation Station’ based here at Mauveworx HQ. For us, this has been a game changer, making donating so much easier and keeping all the good work at Lewis Manning front and centre of our mind”

How we can help you, to help us…

  • We have 9 local shops ready to welcome you
  • We can supply you with donations bags
  • We can supply ‘Stock Donation Stations’ to your place of work
  • We have a specialist house clearance team
  • We have an eCommerce shop

“In June our eBay store raised £4.7k; 208 items were sold with an average price of £22.72”

As a business are there items you could donate?

  • Do you have excess stock?
  • Do you have returned items?
  • Maybe you are having a refurbishment or replacement furniture?
  • Do you have packaging material, bubble wrap etc?

The difference your kindness can make…

The Value of a £5 Donation

  • £5 could pay for a homemade meal for a patient at our day hospice
  • £5 could help provide expert advice and guidance over the phone to a family in distress

The Value of a £10 Donation

  • £10 could provide equipment for an art therapy session to help people explore difficult feelings
  • £10 could fund a book on bereavement given to children dealing with the loss of a parent.

Your donations can also go further with Gift Aid

  • Gift Aid is a scheme where charities can claim an extra 25p from HMRC on every £1 donated.
  • Gift Aid can be claimed on one-off donations, regular donations, and any donation of goods to charity shops.
  • Each year there is an average £600 million NOT claimed in Gift Aid.
  • If you are a tax payer, please register with us. It’s very quick and easy!
