Costa Coffee is continuing its tradition of supporting local communities by donating £1,000 to the Bournemouth Bobcats, an American Football team based in Dorset.
This donation, part of Costa Coffee’s Community Grants programme, is a boost for the club, allowing them to waive membership fees for players who might otherwise have been unable to participate.
This initiative is one of many Costa Coffee is undertaking this summer as part of its celebration of local sports clubs across the UK.
With a total of £50,000 distributed to 50 sporting community groups, the company is investing in the sporting talent of the future while marking its role as the Official Coffee Partner at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Bournemouth Bobcats, competing in Division One of the British American Football Association League, have been a part of the local sports scene since the 1980s.
The donation from Costa Coffee has made a significant difference, particularly at a time when the positive impact of sports on mental well-being is widely recognised.
Keith Barnes, General Manager of the Bournemouth Bobcats, expressed his gratitude: “We are proud to be building a family-based team with a focus on unity and support, both on and off the field.
“The money from the Costa Coffee Community Grant is very much needed to allow people to continue being part of our grassroots team, especially at a time when we’re seeing the positive impact of sport on mental well-being.”
The Bournemouth Bobcats were nominated for the donation by the Costa Coffee store located in Primark on Commercial Road, Bournemouth.
The store manager saw the team’s funding plea on social media and, after attending some games, realised that £1,000 could make a significant impact, particularly in helping the team travel to games and continue inspiring the younger generation.
This donation is part of Costa Coffee’s ongoing commitment to community enrichment. Over the past three years, the Community Grants programme has contributed nearly £180,000 to various causes, reflecting the company’s dedication to social responsibility.
Jo Jennings, Community Co-Ordinator at Costa Coffee, said: “We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the incredible work being done by the Bournemouth Bobcats.
“At Costa Coffee, we recognise the dedication and passion that sports clubs bring to their local areas, and we are proud to be extending a helping hand to sporting groups across the nation through our Community Grants programme.”
