Local favourites Dave and Jason secure freehold for The Thomas Tripp

The Thomas Tripp, a beloved local pub dating back to the 1700s, has become a free house once again. The successful freehold purchase was completed by owners Dave Burns and Jason Giddings.

Known fondly as ‘The Tripp’, the pub has been run by Dave and Jason since 2022. It has become a popular spot for its lively atmosphere, diverse menu, and live entertainment on weekends. The pub also hosts various events throughout the year.

With this new freehold ownership, Dave and Jason now enjoy full independence, allowing them to select the drinks they offer and choose their suppliers. This enables them to support local businesses and further boost the local economy.

Dave said: “Buying the Thomas Tripp and the land it stands on has been a huge step and major milestone for us. We are looking forward to it continuing to be the hub of the community for many years to come.”

The owners have invested significantly in the pub’s interior, including a garden bar conversion and outdoor kitchen expansion. They have also focused on creating a community hub with their fundraising efforts and events.

Supporting several charities, including Macmillan Caring Locally, Helping Homeless Veterans UK, and The Dorset Children’s Foundation, the owners aim to make a lasting impact on Christchurch beyond being just a music venue and restaurant.

Additionally, Dave and Jason organise the popular Xchurch Music Festival, which attracted over 10,000 attendees earlier this summer.

“We know this is just one of the many big steps we are aiming to take to make Christchurch a must-visit location in the county. We are looking forward to this next chapter, and we hope to thrive as a free house for many decades to come,” Jason said.

The purchase was supported by Gary Boyce from Christie Finance, with HSBC also involved.
