A fast-growing sport similar to tennis could be coming to Dorset if planners give the green light.
Part of the former park and ride site at Creekmoor in Poole has been earmarked for the new venture.
It will feature seven premium courts, a bar/café, and onsite changing facilities and a pro shop.
Padel tennis has been described as a combination of tennis, squash and racquetball.
It is believed to be the fastest growing sport in the world.
In Spain there are over 20,000 courts and it’s the country’s most played sport – just behind football – with more than six million participants.
By contrast there are only around 450 courts in the UK.
A start-up company, Cross Court Padel Limited says its goal is to help the new sport grow in Dorset and across the UK.
Currently there are no pay-as-you-play courts in the county.
The only padel facilities in Dorset are three outdoor courts in the BCP area which require monthly club membership.
A design, access and planning statement to BCP Council, submitted by Pure Town Planning, says the dedicated all-weather accessible facility will be housed in a temporary building for five years.
BCP Council is expected to make a decision on the application in the coming months.
