A Kickstarter campaign for a travel backpack with a built-in expandable wardrobe has nearly reached its £30,000 goal, with only days remaining on its fundraising campaign.
The brainchild of Jack Bradley, 27, who works out of the FOUNDRY in Poole, the Zenscape Backpack is a 30-50 litre carry-on which can fold out into a fully organised wardrobe in minutes.
Jack first came up with the idea back in 2016 while interrailing with a friend through Eastern Europe. While trying to fit as much into a busy schedule as possible, he realised how much time was being spent packing and looking for items in his bag.
“We were constantly unpacking, repacking and losing items,” Jack explained.
“I just thought in this day and age there must be an easier way of doing this.
“I’m a product designer, and I realised this could be my challenge.”
He went on to develop his idea while studying Project Design at university, picking up a national award at New Designers 2017.
Since then, Jack has been honing his skills at design agencies and travelling more extensively, going on to collaborate with a fashion design agency to help to make the Zenscape a reality.
Jack launched the Kickstarter campaign on the 29th February with the aim of raising £30,000.
“I want to now bring this to life and share it with the world,” he said.
“Part of the reason I’m doing what I am is that I think if more people had the opportunity to travel and see the world, the world would be a better place.
“I believe my gift as a designer is to make life on the move simple. By having this backpack, it’s as if you’re still living at home, with your wardrobe there and ready to go wherever you are on the planet.
“It makes organisation easy, so you can get on enjoy whatever it is you’re doing without having to go back early and pack everything up.
“It has the potential to be huge, it’s just a case of getting it out there, and getting this first order, which is why we’re running the Kickstarter.”
The campaign has since received more than £25,000, and has until the 29th April to reach its final goal, which will enable Zenscape to start production of the backpack.
“It’s so close now, only five days left.
“It’s been eight years in the making, starting out as a sketch in the back of a diary. Since the first prototype it’s been all over the world with me.
“The biggest challenge has been bringing it to life. You can have an idea, and it might be a great idea, but sharing it with the world and getting the network in place to make it happen takes a lot of time and effort.
“This is the final push, I can’t wait to get on with making it happen.”
For a limited time, Kickstarter backers can secure the Zenscape Backpack at exclusive discounts of up to 33% off the future retail price.
