YRD1, a spin, boxing and strength training gym in Poole, has raised £16,345 – four times the original £4,000 target – in its inaugural ‘YRD1ATHON’ charity fitness event.
The event saw 40 participants tackle a series of six challenging fitness classes, including spinning, boxing, strength training, pilates, bootcamp and run sections, while a live DJ kept the energy up.
It was all in aid of Julia’s House, a local children’s hospice which has proven a vital support system for gym member Gemma Ewen and her family.
Gemma’s son, Finley, was diagnosed with lymphangioma and has been receiving care and support from Julia’s House since he was discharged from hospital.
The money raised from YRD1ATHON will go directly towards purchasing a much-needed shower chair for the hospice and funding Christmas trips for the families it supports.
That includes visits to the Kingston Lacy Christmas Wishes event and the Festival of Light at Longleat.
“We set a goal of £4,000, hoping to stretch that, but the community completely surpassed our expectations,” said YRD1 founder Ben Mills.
“Raising over £16,000 has been an extraordinary achievement.
“Our members, supporters and sponsors went above and beyond, giving their time, energy and efforts.
“I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve all accomplished together.”
