The Rt. Hon. Michael Tomlinson MP visits Lewis-Manning Hospice Care Day Hospice in Wareham

The Rt. Hon. Michael Tomlinson MP took time out of his busy schedule to visit Lewis-Manning Hospice Care hub in Wareham, to meet with local patients and the charity’s CEO Clare Gallie.

The MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole visited his constituency hospice, which supports patients and their families with life limiting illnesses across Poole, East Dorset, Purbeck and West Hampshire.

Clare said: “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to introduce Michael to so many of our local patients, our Lewis-Manning Purbeck nursing team, occupational therapist and art team.

“I was able to explain our innovative Purbeck ‘Hospice at Home’ pilot that demonstrates so many clear and measurable benefits, improving patient experience and allowing patients to stay in their own homes for longer at the end of their lives.

“This important new service, offered by our charity Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, is freeing up significant local GP time and avoiding unnecessary hospital admittances, in turn saving the NHS huge amounts of money.

“We hope that by running this pilot in 2024 we will be able to secure sustainable funding for Purbeck end of life care going forwards and Michael’s support of this initiative is most sincerely appreciated.”

“We are delighted that Michael is now aware of our impact in the area and hope that he is able to offer his support and help to make Lewis-Manning an investment centre for funding this ‘at Home’ part of our many services for local people across Dorset.”

Michael added, “I really enjoyed my visit to the Lewis-Manning Hospice Care’s Day Hospice in Wareham today, to chat to local hospice patients and find out so much more about the charity’s excellent and important work helping and supporting people and their families across East Dorset and Purbeck, with end-of-life care.”
